Monday 10 May saw our Men's 1st team play the Hadleigh 1st team at home, resulting in a fantastic 7v2 win for players James, Dom, Anthony, Chris, Ewan and myself (Matt).
It was fantastic to finally get the Ipswich and District Summer League games going after missing out last year. And, as per usual for the Summer League, we started off by playing in rather wintry conditions, with blistering winds making for tricky conditions.
Unfortunately for Hadleigh, they struggled to get a full team together and arrived with just two pairs; this meant we started with a 3v0 advantage before the balls were even out of the can.
All three Sax pairs then went on to win against their second pair convincingly. However, it was a different story when playing against their strong first pair - with only the partnership of myself and Anthony managing to prevail, us ending the night with a 100% record.
It was great to get the season off to a flying start, plus to get the first league win in my first match as captain of the first men's team, following James' long and successful reign.
Next up is an away trip to our bogey ground against YM Tennis, with the team not overly looking forward to playing on the beachy, skiddy astro with its own unique bounce!
Ah well, I guess there will just have to be plenty of serve and volleys!
