Sadly this edition of the Box League was marred with injuries throughout meaning several matches could not be played, however plenty still were and overall was great to see plenty of close matches especially with those matches played on finals day with three of the four going the full three sets! (Julie's and Jenny's may have well been lasting close to two hours!!!)

Jo kicked the day off in sublime style bagging the first set 6v0 only for Jess to battle back and take the second set 6v4. In a topsy turvy match, the final set went to Jo to claim the first trophy of the day.

Second match was probably only a set and a half old when the above match had finished, every point was gruelling (apart from the points Ewan just smashes the ball past you with a winner straight off........) with each set effectively lasting an hour each.

Ewan claimed the first set 6v4 with a masterclass of massive hitting backed up with airtight consistency. Matt, a day after another 3 hour three set match the day before, somehow found some form at the right time. Becoming more and more aggressive to stop the Ewan attack before it could begin, leading to another tight set which leveled the match at one set all. Final set was more of the same, which Matt just edged 6v4.

Mixed doubles plate was just as enthralling. Matt and Jess had raced off to a 6v2 lead however the 2nd set was a different kettle of fish and was tight throughout.

Fantastic play from Giles and Barbara allowed them to take it to a deciding set which was decided should be a championship tiebreak with a number of factors including a very ominous dark sky above.... Jess and Matt would rekindle the spirit of the first set and flew off to a 8v3 lead, only for Barbara and Giles to show unreal resilience to grind their way back into it and go one further by eventually clinching an epic of a match 12v10!

Barbara and Giles won the mixed doubles plate thanks to their fantastic play during an "enthralling" match

This year will be the last Box League however I shall be relaunching it with a similar looking Club Championships which will be more knock out but still allow everyone the chance of at least two matches per competition, plus we will keep the finals day going and hopefully bring it back to the glory days of the past.
