"It's coming home"

A gathering storm didn't stop our men's 1st team from inching closer to glory in their away match against Hadleigh on Monday 5 July 2021.

The outcome of this thrilling and hard-fought match now puts Sax in prime position to win the Division 4 title.

The match of the night resulted in the captain (me) achieving a flawless set record this season finally coming to an end after 17 straight sets won! (Well done Matt! - Ed.)

Although, to take nothing away from the opposition pair, who played fantastically solid tennis throughout, both Chris and myself left the court pretty deflated and frustrated in the several missing opportunities that would have changed the tide of the game.

This pair would then go on to steamroll their way through our other two pairs winning both impressively 8v0.

The other two pairs of Dom and James, and Ewan and Anthony - despite the one loss - would make light work of the opposition's other two pairs, and between them would go on to only drop four games in four sets.

With the match still in the balance going into the final sets, typical Wimbledon weather kicked in on what was already a very gloomy and dark evening, making conditions very tricky, especially given the lack of floodlights.

This led to an almighty scrap from myself and Chris. We may as well have been playing in the pitch dark with our eyes closed the way we were timing the ball...

However, in the end all pairs would go onto to win two out of three of the sets leading to an overall 6v3 win.

This keeps us in line for a flawless season, with only two more matches to play.

A well-deserved shout out goes to our number one supporter Sue, for making the hour-long journey down to cheer us over the line, and for supplying us with an almighty selection of snacks.
