Sixteen club members got together recently to play in a mixed doubles memorial tournament while raising funds for the East Anglian Air Ambulance charity.

Saturday 5th November 2022 was the date, with the event being held in memory of long-time club member David Barham (known to most as DB), who died in August 2022.

The format saw eight pairs in total, each playing three matches of six games, keeping the same partner throughout with games totalled-up for the three matches.

The final result ended in a tie-break between Mike and Sonia, and Jennie Pink and David Lewis, as the weather had deteriorated. So, it was decided that the two victorious pairs should share the trophy, with each player looking after it on a rota system for three months.

DB's widow Thelma was unable to attend but was very appreciative of the support in memory of her late husband, and she kindly donated two bottles of wine as prizes.

Donations raised by those taking part totalled £250.00 which have been donated to the East Anglian Air Ambulance charity.

David Lewis, co-champion and club treasurer, said: "There was the usual magnificent buffet spread, and a big thank you must go to Jennie Pink for organising the event, and Fiona for her input and contribution to the spread.

"Everyone had a very enjoyable time and it was felt a very fitting way to remember DB, and it was agreed that this would become an annual event."
