On Friday 7 May 2021 the newly-formed 2nd Ladies Team, led by captain Nicky Wedekind, ventured to East Bergholt for their first game of the season in the Ipswich and District Tennis Summer League Ladies Doubles, Division 5.
Despite some minor navigational issues in finding the tucked-away location, Nicky, Fiona, Cornelia, Fran, Nicole and first-time match player Jo were raring to go, and started play on time.
The home team was very friendly and welcoming and they, like us, had also just formed their 2nd team to get more of their members out playing, competing, and having some fun on court.
It was a perfect evening for tennis.
We were delighted that we won six of our total nine sets, with a particularly impressive overall performance from Cornelia and Fran, securing a three-set win.
We pootled back up the A12 at 10.30pm with no navigational issues, and smiles on our faces.
Nicky said to the team: "Thanks for your participation in our first match of the season. Fantastic atmosphere and some really good tennis."
A great way to start the season!
