Match report by David McGowan, team captain
Following on from a crushing defeat, but an enjoyable encounter, against Stowmarket in October the Saxmundham Men's 3rd team were eager to get back in the action and show our true potential against the Sproughton Men's 4th team on Monday 1st November 2021.
This was as part of our campaign in the Ipswich and District Men's Winter League.
I decided to change the line up and paired a new team of Bill C and Martin L, whilst we continued with the same pairing of Richard Crone and myself.
The Bill and Martin pairing was a masterstroke; they provided a spectacular display over the evening to win three of their sets. However, the Sax Men's 3rd team was still on the cusp of losing the match as myself and Richard had lost our first three sets.
In the last set we were 5-2 down, and were staring at a match defeat, however we managed to hang steady and agreed to take each game as it came, and won the last five games to win the final set 7-5 which drew the match.
A great evening, during which the tennis was enjoyed by both sides. As Bill would say "WE GOT A POINT!"
