Sax joins the prestigious Prime Video LTA Youth Girls Programme

Writer: Matthew LastMatthew Last

Saxmundham Tennis Club has been successful in its application to become part of the Prime Video LTA Youth Girls Programme.

This important national, multi-year programme for girls' tennis was launched in October 2022 with Amazon Prime Video and the LTA aiming to to inspire thousands of girls to pick up a racket and play tennis.

The programme will train coaches across Great Britain to deliver lessons and guidance that's specifically designed for girls.

Training days will initiate the start of the programme, whereby coaches will hear from inspirational speakers, get active on court, and hand them all the information needed for them to set up and start delivering the programme - in our case, on-court in Saxmundham.

Four such training days are being held across the UK in 2023, and our head coach Matthew Last will be attending the Nottingham training day on 23rd February.

The programme will focus on creating an environment that motivates girls and young women to play, and stay, in tennis.

LTA research identified that girls want to play with friends:

  • in a fun and pressure-free setting

  • with relatable coaches

  • who can build confidence

  • and drive enjoyment

The initiative fulfils Prime Video’s promise to reinvest the funds from sharing the broadcast of the 2021 US Open Final with Channel 4, into British women’s tennis.

We're likely to see the first re-launched Youth Girls session at Saxmundham in mid-spring 2023, so watch this space for further promotion of this fantastic opportunity to motivate and get more girls and young women playing tennis at our friendly and welcoming club.

This is brilliant news for the club and what it will mean to help get more girls playing. Well done again to our head coach Matt - Ed.
