Superb Sax set to top the team table

Saxmundham Men's 1st team have secured an 8-1 win against YM Tennis - making them the favourites to top the league table - and finishing the season in style this week in a sizzling display against a strong YM team.

But the 8-1 scoreline is perhaps slightly flattering and doesn't do the away team justice; with no fewer than four sets going the distance. The only defeat on the was a narrow 8-6 lose from Anthony and Ewan, and that was mostly down to a storming match performance from big-hitting away team player Avery. Dom and James had a cracking night, winning all three matches, with the game of the night coming in at 9-7.

(The night extended long past the match, with a few celebratory end-of-season beers under the floodlights. All were sensible of course, and cycled home after a couple of hours' of reflection on the season, including a fascinating 10-minute lecture from James who demonstrated to Roger where he should be standing when at the net. )

The evening also saw a clean sweep for Matt and Chris, which means they end up being the top dogs for the season with 15 sets won out of 16.

From an individual standpoint, the evening saw Matt bag 22 sets won out of 24 throughout the season, with a close second place going to ever-growing young gun Ewan, who has had a phenomenal season, winning 17 out of 24 sets. Joint third place on set wins are Chris and Anthony, who both have achieved wins in 16 out of 18 sets played.

With Sax winning all bar one of the matches so far, and our second worst result being a 6-3 win, it looks likely that we'll top the table, or at the very least finish joint top with the Ipswich Men's 3s.
