The four (damp) musketeers finally get their game on

Wednesday 15th March 2023 saw the long-awaited away match between our Ladies 2nd team against East Bergholt, writes team captain on the night, Frances Paul.

Having rescheduled this match from before Christmas 2022, we finally had a date. "Great!" I hear you say... but due to various factors, mainly weather and getting team players of the number required in one place at the right time, then it was off again... then it was on again... then even on the morning of the match it was off again...

But, finally, by lunchtime it was most definitely on again.

For Saxmundham Ladies' 2nd team we had Fiona, Sharon, Barbara and Fran making up the team. We set off down the A12 to warm up and get playing. Then, halfway there... no, the match wasn't called off, but the rain had started up. What else could go wrong?

When we got there, thankfully it was fine rain. We'd got this far, and we were determined to play this match.

Sharon and Barbara started with their wonderful winning ways, but unfortunately Fiona and Fran let a 5-3 lead slip away to a loss of 7-5. The rest was no better, but we all gave it our best against a good opposition and damp, heavy balls.

We were glad to get back into a dry car, off up the A12 again, and we soon warmed up and dried out. Hopefully we'll do better on the return match at home, which is the last game of the floodlit league for us this season.

Roll on warm, dry evenings!
